Journey into HU SNG

Welcome to my first attempt at a blog, I hope to use this to keep me honest and moving forward in my poker development. Well some about me, turned 40 this year. I have been married going onto 19 years I'm blessed with 3 wonderful sons so life at home is hectic on a good day.

I have played poker for a long time with little or no success, that is until I came across a wonderful poker site (shameless plug) http://bluff.com/ Thanks to Paul, Bobby and Ian the creators and innovators of this website my game is getting better everyday. The website offers a great tool to analyze your game. It records your hands which can then be shared on the forums or viewed privately be yourself in a replayer. It's fast and works great. When you post hands or your sessions on the forums some very experience players give you pointers and feedback, this alone is very valuable as it gets you talking and discussing poker with other players. Although the forums aren't the most active they do have a lot of great information and some of the nicest members that offer help to others.

So on to my poker.... that's what this was meant to be for. I started with help from Paul "Beanie" Nobles without his support and guidance I wouldn't be even thinking about this. I received his first installment of funds in Nov I was playing Short Stack Strategy on the lowest of low tables, .01-.02 tables I played for a long time and slowly built my bankroll up from $10 to$200 playing SSS. I couldn't ever get past $300, I would win, then loose loose loose. Was like walking in quick sand, or pissing into the wind. Well I had enough of this and wasn't getting anywhere with playing SSS so I figured I needed a change. I had been following another members progress at Bluff, Doomsayer is his handle I call him Matthias. Well he was playing just HU SNG and doing extremely well. Now I was intrigued how he could be doing so well so I looked into this fabulous game some more, and the more I looked the more interested I became. I think HU SNG are the best kept secret in online poker. I mean I have been playing online poker for 4 or 5 years at least maybe longer. I had never given this game a second thought. So thanks to Matthias for his inspiration.

So I started playing only HU SNG in Jan. I was very surprised at how bad most players really are at the $5 buyin level. I have played only a small sample and still have so much to learn about this fabulous game. I have progressed enough to be comfortable playing the $10 games now and still doing rather well. My bankroll just keeps growing and growing, which never really happend to me before.

How far will the journey with HU SNG's take me is anyone's guess, will I ever break out of the micro limits low stakes player into the mid levels or higher. I certainly hope so, I don't think that many players work as hard as I do. I review my play on a daily basis, I post my sessions to be torn apart by better players, I frequent some of the best sites for HU SNG advice. I watch many many experts play as well as watch any available material(videos) I can get my hands on. So with my work ethic and help from my friend at Bluff, I hope to oneday be one of the few that crawl out of the depths of microstakes hell.
